Bounded by Baseline Road to the north, McQueen Road to the west and Ray Road to the south, Central Gilbert has a rural-type feel, due to its agricultural beginnings as an agrarian community. Gilbert is primarily a suburban community, and features dozens of distinct neighborhoods and subdivisions. Within Central Gilbert can be found the neighborhoods of Neely Ranch, Crystal Point Estates, Old West Estates, Coral Point, The Islands, Martinique, Sonora Town, Dave Brown Country Estates, and Rancho Del Verde.
Neely Ranch, for example, features single-family homes built in 1999 and 2000. The large subdivision called The Islands features 2500 homes among 17 distinct neighborhoods. Some are gated communities, and others feature homes (1600 plus) on the hundreds of man-made lakes that dot this subdivision.
